Parent conference and/or expulsion from Beacon for the remainder of the year

Disrespect toward staff (not following rules, name calling, not listening to direction, theft, etc.)

OR

Disrespect  toward peers (bullying, name calling, theft, etc.)

Depending on severity: Time period chill out in the office (10-30min); call home; leave early with parent; suspension from activity or Beacon for 1-2 days; extra Homework Help. (one or more of these things)

If it is very severe and ongoing (more than 1 week of time) we will consider expulsion from the program.

Physically hurting another student

Depending on severity: call home; leave early with parent; suspension from Beacon for 1-2 days; expulsion. (one or more of these things)

Physically hurting staff

Depending on severity: call home; leave early with parent; suspension from activity for 1-2 days; expulsion. (one or more of these things)

Refusing to focus/complete homework during homework help

Make a note on the sign in sheet; if it happens for more than two days out of the week, alert parent to their inattentiveness. If they are being particularly rude/disrespectful while not completing their homework, can call home earlier.

Using the elevator without a staff member present

Removal from activity for the day; either extra homework help or leave early. If the student repeats this offense we may call home or suspend from activity for an extended period of time.

Entering the Girls Prep side without permission

Apologize to GP staff. Potential suspension from activity for 1-2 days. Repeat offenders could result in regular cleanup duty of classrooms/the cafeteria after snack, call home, or more severe consequence if they damaged property.

Creating a mess without cleaning it up

Cleanup duty in the cafeteria for 1-3 days, depending on severity of mess/disrespect. Repeat offense could result in removal from activity/call home.

Hanging out in the cafeteria/any other area that is unauthorized at that time (kids aren’t where they’re supposed to be)

They need to either immediately go where they need to be or face serious consequences – call home; suspension from activity, etc. If they are a repeat offender, we may need to do a 1-2 day suspension from Beacon or potential, eventual expulsion.

Lingering in the office without permission

Removal from activity to extra homework help; potential cleanup duty, in office or cafeteria

Repeatedly lingering in the office without permission – multiple times a week for more than one week

2-3 day suspension from activity or potential suspension from Beacon, if repeatedly not following other rules as well.

Suspension from Activity: Not allowed to participate in their chosen activity. Instead they must do extra homework help, may be allowed to go to another activity, or help in the office/another site, if we have work that needs to be done.

Suspension from Beacon: Cannot attend our program at ALL that day. Unless the teacher specifically allows it, they cannot go to homework help or their chosen activity.
