Parent Association (The PA).

You also have a right to vote for activities,
board members, and the such.

Parent Association (PA) General Meeting + Special Elections

Available Positions: (1) Title 1 Representative, (1) Events Chair, (1) Fundraising Chair, (2) General Board Members. Description of roles is below.


The objectives of the Parent Association are to provide support and resources to the school for the benefit and educational growth of the children; to develop a cooperative working relationship between the parents and staff of our school; to develop parent leadership and build capacity for greater involvement; to foster and encourage parent participation on all levels; and to provide opportunities and training for parents to participate in school governance and decision-making. Each PA position is for a one-year term ending June 30, 2018. The only qualifications required for any PA position are to be a parent or guardian of a child attending East Side Community School (including the middle school). We are seeking people with positive energy, leadership skills and time to commit to the duties of a Parent Association general member or board member. You can nominate yourself or another parent/guardian by emailing You may submit more than one nomination. Candidates other than the submitter will be contacted to verify that they would like to be on the ballot.


Description of Roles:

Title I Parent Representative: The Title I Parent Representative shall have a dual responsibility: (a) To ensure that information about Title I and other programs, policies and initiatives are shared with other Title I parents. (b) Through their representation, that the views of Title I parents are expressed on issues affecting their children’s education.


Events Committee Chair: The events committee shall be responsible for organizing events the either have a fundraising component or to promote community building. 


Fundraising Chair: The fundraising committee shall be responsible for organizing and implementing fundraising activities for both the school and association, identify private and corporate donors for solicitations, and solicit community donors in support of both the school and the association.  This includes facilitating the sale of East Side clothing and gear at select events and/or activities. 


General Board Member(s): The general board members shall attend executive and general membership meetings, promote the school to prospective new families and encourage volunteering from current families. Invites new families/students to events during the school year, informs the president of any information that needs to be communicated to the board or school administration, works closely with the executive board to coordinate social activities/events for the school, supports and promotes the school’s and Parents Association’s fundraisers, activities, and events, and provides input on how the Parents Association can use surplus funds.
